The Resurrection Phoenix midget girls' 4x100 relay squad obliterated a 21-year old record at the CWOSSA track and field championships on their home turf Wednesday evening.
The foursome of Kristen Dietrich, Kate Puersten, Bailey Sprout and Niki Paiva ran a blistering 50.64 clocking, which broke the existing CWOSSA record by over 1 second (51.80, Brantford North Park - 1989).
This time establishes Resurrection as an unquestionable favourite to medal at the upcoming OFSAA championships. Last year, Fletcher's Meadow from Brampton had a 50.15 clocking in the finals ---- and were the only school to go "sub 51" in the championships.
The interesting thing is that they may not be the only school that medals from our area at OFSAA. Their D8 rivals, the St. Mary's Eagles, ran a 51.59 time --- which ALSO was better than the previous CWOSSA record.
Another note --- Rez's 50.64 time was the second fastest of any girls relay team (all divisions) on Wednesday. The JF Ross senior girls (who were 5th at OFSAA last year) won that division in 50.46 seconds.
